Rochester: Passed quietly at the age of 89 in the early morning hours on March 3rd, 2022, at St. Anne’s Community in Rochester, NY. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Kay Lofurno, and Andrea Purcell, their husbands Gary Lofurno and Tom Purcell, and grandchildren Justin, Kyle, and Abigail. He is also survived by Pam Angeloff, wife of his recently deceased brother, Carl Angeloff.
Alex was a man who loved learning, languages, history and travel. After his time at Virginia Military Institute and service in the military, he was recognized for promoting peace and stability during the Cold War and a member of the American Legion. He accumulated a bachelor’s degree in History from Hobart College, master’s degrees in both Comparative Literature and History and a PHD in Russian History. He spoke nine different languages and worked as an educator who taught at Rochester High School, Cazenovia College in Cazenovia, NY and Northwestern Community College in Winsted, CT as Dean of Academics. He then went to work for the City of Rochester in planning and administering of all its federal grant programs until he retired. He spent much of his later years traveling across Europe and visiting family in Greece.
Family and friends may attend a Funeral Service for Alex on Friday, March 11th, 11am at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church 962 East Ave. Interment will follow at White Haven Memorial Park immediately after.
