Obituary for Francis J. "Frank" Haak

Rochester, NY – Francis “Frank’ Haak, 93, passed peacefully on September 26, 2022. Frank could always be counted on to help out where needed. A lifelong Lutheran, Frank was a devoted and very faithful member of Trinity Emmanuel Lutheran Church, involved in many aspects of church life from building projects, financial advisor and council member to counting money and chairing the committee to call a new pastor.

If the sun was out, it was time for a drive to places like Mendon Ponds, anywhere, as long as he could do the driving. His love of life and travel led to cross country trips and 17 cruises to see sights in Europe and the Far East, even the Panama Canal.

Following his Marine Corps Service, Frank had a successful 34-year career with Eastman Kodak in the Apparatus and Optical Division, and was proud to be part of the Apollo and Hubbell Telescope programs. Not one to be idle after retiring he devoted himself to a new career with Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance. He found numerous ways to volunteer, serving on the Monroe Community Hospital Auxiliary Board over 20 years; and was still sharing his safe driving values as a 20+ year instructor with the AARP Drivers Training Program and NYS Zone 2 Coordinator, teaching his last class just a month ago. He also volunteered at his residence, St. John’s Meadows.

Born in Rochester, Frank was predeceased by father, Harry G. and mother, Elizabeth M. (Horch); step-mother, Hilda; brother, Earl; and stepsister, Doris Baker and her husband, William; wife of 38 years Josephine (Gange); wife Dorothy (Tolster) and her son, John Grentzinger; and son-in-law, Norm Glista.

He is survived by his children, Patsy Glista and Douglas Haak (Sharon) and their mother; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeanette, Jason, Brenda and Jeremy; Josephine’s children, Janine (James) Hogan, Sandra Lee (Dennis) Kraemer, Jack (Lorraine) Porcello and Robert (Aimee) Porcello, and grandchildren, Whitney, Bethany, Joshua, Abbie Jo, Emily, and Allison; Dorothy’s son, James; and daughter-in-law, Linda Grentzinger; and grandchildren, Maria, John, and Sean; many great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Geraldine Haak; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Ann Henderberg; and numerous dear friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 5th at 11 AM at Trinity Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 761 Elmgrove Rd. Rochester NY 14624. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his memory to his church or Monroe Community Hospital Auxiliary, 435 East Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY 14620.
