Obituary for George Wolf

George, known lovingly as “Opa” by his family and friends, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, July 6th. He lived nearly a century, determined to enjoy every day he was blessed with. On his last, death came as a friend, reuniting him with his wife of 62 years, Katherina. He leaves behind a son, George (Janet), two daughters, Rosemarie (Johann) and Gerlinde (Alan), and many grand- and great-grandchildren. His heart, although physically weak, was strong in the ways that mattered most. He loved his family and friends dearly until the end.

Opa was born in Gross Schogen Romania but emigrated from Austria to Rochester in 1956, working tirelessly to build a better life for his growing family. After retiring from Castle, he continued to lay down roots, tending to his grandchildren and peach trees with swelling pride.

He begins a new presence in our lives now. He’ll be with us cheering during every Yankees game, in every deck of cards, in every jigsaw puzzle, and in every “chipmouse” in the garden. Through the joy and humor he nurtured within us, he lives on.

Friends are welcome Friday, July 9th from 10am-12pm at the Profetta Funeral Chapel, 1650 Empire Blvd. where a service will follow at 12noon. Interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Consider contributions to
UR Medicine Hospice 2180 Empire Blvd. Webster, NY 14580 in his memory in lieu of flowers.
