Obituary for Josephine Fowler "Josie" Cleveland

Josie was born in South Boston, MA. in 1925 and moved to Central New York in 1954. She lived in Schenectady, East Syracuse, Liverpool and Victor with a home in Baldwinsville for 50 years. Josie lived her last years in Fairport, NY. She was active in the Girl Scouts of America being a scout leader for over 5 year and volunteered at the Syracuse Home Assn. in Baldwinsville as well.

She enjoyed 40 years of golfing and 20 years of ballroom and square dancing, belonging to several dance clubs. She was an avid bridge player and was active in several bridge clubs over the years.

She graduated (1940's) from Wyndham College in Boston, MA. and was employed by Pratt Diagnostic Hospital as a Lab technician. In Syracuse she worked as an office assistant to the president of Joe Stevens Company for over 20 years. She earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from Onondaga Community College in 1975 and a bachelor in Health Related Psychology @ Graceland University Lamoni, Iowa in 1992. She retired after 20 years of service at State University of New York (Upstate Medical) as a Registered Nurse. Her last position being a patient advocate.

Josie was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Baldwinsville, New York until moving to Victor, NY.

She was predeceased by her parents, Benjamin J. and Annie V. (Trefry) McAuliffe, daughter, Joanne L. Fowler, brother, Joseph L. McAuliffe, sister-in-law, Claire McAuliffe, brother-in-law Bill Moran, first husband James E. Fowler Sr. (married 43 years) and second husband, Ralph Cleveland (married 27 years).

She is survived by sons, James E. (Bonnie) Fowler Jr., of Farmington, NY, Jeffrey L. (Sandra) Fowler, North Chili, NY, and Jeremy P. Fowler, of Irondequoit, NY, sister Margaret Moran, of South Boston, Mass, step-children, Sheila (Robert) Emborski, Robert Cleveland, Dennis Cleveland and Russell (Peggy) Cleveland, grandchildren,Tina Fowler, Jennifer (Luke) Fowler, Jeffrey Jr. (Christine) Fowler, Jason (Susan) Fowler, Heather (Chris) Wadsworth, step-grandchildren, Megan(Justin)Barney, Robert (Wendy) Emborski, Daniel Cleveland and Anna (Taylor) Hallowell, along with several nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.

Family and friends are welcome Sunday, December 4th from 4-7pm at the Profetta Funeral Chapel 1650 Empire Blvd. Josie's Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, December 5th 10am at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Liverpool, NY and can be live streamed at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbURH9T_L6nmI6r0SHGXGQg Interment will follow the Mass at St. Mary's Cemetery in Baldwinsville, NY.
