Maria comes from a big family--- six brothers and three sisters. They lived on a farm in northern Greece. There was no electric or running water, but many animals. In spite of all the hard work she learned to speak five languages by listening to people from other countries who came to Greece. She and her family had to leave their home as did all the people as the Germans burned their villages in WWII. Marie was married in 1951 and had two sons. Her husband's uncle sponsored them so they could come to America. Her husband came over first then Maria and their two sons in 1955. In 1955 a daughter was born. They lived in the 19th Ward first, then in Brighton and Irondequoit. Marie has traveled a lot, but enjoyed Hawaii most. She has a beautiful carved coffee table from there. She has many good memories from trips to Key West, California, Mexico, Aruba, the Bahamas and Australia.
