Obituary for Merle Gordon "Mike" Gallagher

Passed away on January 20, 2022 at the age of 90. He was born in St. Paul, MN on April 6, 1931 and grew up in New Jersey. He graduated from Morristown High School in 1949 playing trombone in the All State Band and as a member of their state championship football team. He enrolled at the University of Rochester participating in NROTC and graduating in 1950 with dual degrees in Economics and Mechanical Engineering. After five years as a navy pilot flying off aircraft carriers, he returned to Rochester and began a 30 year career with Eastman Kodak Company. He was part of the team that launched the first photographic satellites capturing color pictures of the earth from space. He also built sophisticated facilities to manufacture a- spherical plastic lenses for Kodak's instant camera line. He was an avid amateur singer, golfer and spent most vacations fishing and camping with family and friends. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling the 50 states with his wife in their RV and hosting guests at the cottage they built on Skaneateles Lake in 1986.

He was predeceased by his parents Vernon D. Gallagher Sr. and Viola Jones Gallagher, his brother Vernon D. Gallagher Jr. and his former wife Elisabeth R. Gallagher. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Helga H. Gallagher, three children, Ann Hubregsen (Dave), Nancy Corliss (Jim), Daniel Gallagher (Teresa), three stepchildren: Andrea Foxton (John), Lola Adamson (Bob), Alex Protasiewicz (Carol), 11 grandchildren, Carrie Hubregsen, Andy Hubregsen (Angela), Meg Hubregsen, Joseph Corliss, Daniel Corliss, Michael Gallagher, Nathan Foxton, Alexandra Foxton-DeHaven (Colin), Matthew Adamson (Katie), Renee Baritell (Mark), Erik Protasiewicz (Kristal), and three great-grandchildren, Taylor Hochadel, Avery Baritell and Rooney Hubregsen.

A Memorial Service will be held and announced at a later date. Memorials may be made to Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Rd. Fairport, NY 14450.
