Obituary for Mihail I. "Mike" Economou

Rochester - Suddenly on April 12th, 2022 at the age of 68. Survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Irene, daughters, Vasiliki (Jake) Flading and Magdalene (Rachel Giordano) Economou, and his pride and joy, his grandsons, Ted and Lou Flading, brothers, Andreas (Helen) Economou, Konstantinos (Eleftheria) Economou, and Pavlos Economou, sisters-in-law, Anne (Michael) Devoy and Kathy (Joe) DiPietro, many loved nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.

Predeceased by his parents, Ioannis and Evthokia Economou, in-laws Xenofon and Vasiliki Harisis.

Mike was born in Flambouro, Florina, Greece on March 16, 1954. Mike immigrated to the United States in 1984 to marry the love of his life, Irene. He initially worked for his father-in-law at Tom's Restaurant in Irondequoit, eventually owning and operating the restaurant with his wife. Mike then partnered with his brother-in-law, Joe, to own and operate Crystal Lakes Family Restaurant in Farmington in 1994. Mike was retired, spending his time in his garden or favorite room in the house, the kitchen, where he cooked and enjoyed many delicious meals with his whole family. Recently, Mike was sharing his knowledge and passion of Greek cooking with his son-in-law, Jake, and working on perfecting his homemade phylo dough - trying to rival that of his mother and mother-in-law. Mike's whole world revolved around his family and he was so proud of his daughters, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law to be, Rachel. Mike also loved being a beloved papou to his grandsons, Ted and Lou. His eyes would light up whenever he saw or talked about them. When not in his garden or the kitchen, Mike could be found playing with his grandsons. Ted loved his "Papou Hali". He will be profoundly missed.

Family and friends are welcome Monday, April 18th from 10-11am at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church (962 East Ave.) where a Funeral Service will follow at 11am. Interment White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the church.
