Obituary for Thomas Joseph Ryan
Thomas Joseph Ryan age 72, of Penfield NY, died Saturday June 4, 2022 at Rochester General Hospital in Penfield, NY. He was the oldest of eight children.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, June 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the Rev. James Schwartz as Celebrant. Burial will be at a later date. The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral.
Thomas J. Ryan was born August 4,1949 to John J. and Teresa M. Ryan. Tom grew up in West Conshohocken, PA and attended St. Gertrude Parochial School and graduated from LaSalle College High School in Wyndmoor, PA. Tom entered into ROTC from LaSalle College after receiving his Bachelor's Degree and was Commissioned into the US Army Signal Corps in 1971. His tours of duty included Fort Gordon, Georgia, Fort Carson, Colorado and Karlsruhe Germany. Tom earned a Masters Degree in Education while serving in the US Army at University of North Colorado. .
Tom was united in marriage to Helen (Pinkie) E. Smith on November 30,1974 at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1603, a black belt in Karate and an avid reader. Tom was Honorably discharged from the US Army with the rank of Captain. He went on to a career in Consulting at Eastman Kodak.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Robert Ryan and David Ryan. He is survived by his wife Pinkie, his brothers, John J (Eileen) Ryan, Matthew (Candee) Ryan, Richard (Sharon) Ryan, Joseph (Kim) Ryan and a sister Kathryn Mary (Dennis) Mason, sisters-in- law, Bonnie (Kenny) Ross, Terrie (Tom) Finley, Cathy Wright, Barbie( Bobby) Schneebeck, Margaret (Bryan) Dodge, Mary (Bob) Rolfs and brother in law Page (Cheryl) Smith, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to St. Jude's Children’s Hospital or Catholic Charities.
